2016

31 Dec Şerefe 2016!

It’s hard to believe that another year has flown by, and that tomorrow morning 2017 will replace 2016 on our calendars. 2016 will be remembered as a year that brought about change in the United States, in Turkey, and indeed, around the globe.

2016 was also a year of tremendous growth for VinoRai! We sold more Turkish wine in the United States than had ever been sold by one US importer in one year before, opening up new markets, and solidifying market shares in the existing ones.

Of particular note was the reception that the American market gave to Turkish rosé this past year. As dry as the summer winds that blow across the Anatolian plains, our Turkish rosés covered the range of pink from pale copper-colored wines to the vibrant fuchsia-colored wines that go so well with Copper River salmon in the late Spring and Summer. Distributors have already started putting in their orders for the 2017s which are being prepared for bottling at this moment.

In 2016, VinoRai supplied 40 different wines (a new high for us) into 17 different markets (also a new high for us), from Alaska to Florida. We were thrilled to have our wines finally break into the 90′s (rating-wise) from a major wine publication, and we were equally thrilled to have one of our wines awarded the prestigious Award of Excellence at the TEXSOM competition.

In 2016, we were honored to bring the Chamlija wines from Thrace into our portfolio. As one of the few wineries in the world that produce the rare Papaskarasi grape, it was exciting to see this ancient varietal being received so well on our shores.

2016 also saw an expansion of the Turasan brand, from two wines to nine, with smart new packaging on all of them. We also expanded the Diren line from three wines to six in 2016, with all of them being warmly received.

2016 was a strong year for Pasaeli winery as well. Besides making the aforementioned “90 Point Club” with their standout “K2” blend, they also were finally able to supply the US market with the exceedingly rare Yapincak variety, along with their pair of Çalkarasi rosés.

So as we come to a close in 2016 at VinoRai, we want to thank you for your continued support of Turkish wines. In a turbulent world, it is nice to know that wine brings people together, and that in 2017 we will strive to continue bringing people and Turkish wines together.

What’s in store for 2017 at VinoRai? Lots! Please be sure to check back frequently, as 2017 promises to be the best year yet!
